In 2020 Nasirian and colleagues gave 60 participants 2 percent rosemary oil or 2 percent minoxidil for 24 weeks. Counts increased 10% with rosemary and 13% with minoxidil, with p equals 0.12. The near result deserves attention, and the strength deserves attention too. Those studies tested 2% minoxidil, not the stronger 5% preparation used by many adults, so similarity there does not show sameness with present standard dosing.

The latest rosemary evidence combines the herb with lavender against a control. Patel and colleagues assigned 90 participants in 2025 to rosemary-lavender oil, a peptide preparation or control for 90 days. The rosemary lavender group lifted hair growth rate by 57.73 percent over control at p less than 0.0001. That group also raised thickness by 68.70% and density by about 32% against control, while shedding dropped by more than 40%.

Bench research suggests a possible mechanism. Murata and colleagues found in 2013 that rosemary leaf extract blocked 5-alpha reductase by 82.4% at 200 ug per mL and 94.6% at 500 ug per mL in vitro. In that same test finasteride gave 81.9% inhibition. Results in glass do not foretell results on skin.

Peptides still sit earlier in the evidence root system. A phase 2A trial of PP405, a peptide that wakes hair follicle stem cells, showed statistically meaningful regrowth in eight weeks across 78 patients. A telogen effluvium study enrolled 45 subjects aged 18 to 45 years in three groups of 15 for 90 days, testing Capilia longa blends, cytokine and peptide blends, and redensyl with aminexil at 2 mL once daily. Samples remain small, follow up stays short and formulas differ.

Low dose oral minoxidil is moving from clinic habit toward shared rules. Ayurvedic practitioners administer turmeric by mouth as fresh pressed juice, simmered tea, tinctures or powder and on skin as creams, lotions, pastes and ointments.

Chinese documents held the same species in steady regard. Turmeric appeared in the Tang Materia Medica assembled in China in 659 AD, called the earliest pharmacopoeia in the world. Chinese medicine employs turmeric to move Qi and blood when addressing pain in the upper and lower abdomen, irregular menstruation, swelling and injury.
