He wakes without an alarm and warms spring water for shilajit tea. For Cymbiotika co-founder Chervin Jafarieh, that quiet cup holds the whole story, a mountain resin, a tested extract, a liposomal liquid, and a label meant to read plain.

The pot is on before the phone is touched. Spring water, a measured serving of dark liquid, feet on cool ground while the sun clears the horizon. Jafarieh has described this dawn practice as a ritual rather than a schedule, a way to arrive clear headed before sourcing calls, lab sheets and fill weights fill the day.

The path to that cup runs through a Waldorf childhood centered on environmental health and biodynamic fields, guidance from cousin David Wolf on raw food nutrition, formal study in Ayurveda and traditional Chinese herbal practice, months in Peruvian forests listening to elders, and four or five years beside his father during colon cancer. In 2014 to 2015, after close to ten years in environmental private equity around the Bay Area and Palo Alto, he joined childhood friend Shahab to start a company without outside capital.

Cymbiotika now ranks among the fastest growing supplement labels, organized around liposomal carriers and language about clean and effective formulas supported by science. Root to Bottle came with a herbalist set of questions. Which plant part, which resin seam, which extraction, which marker, which trial. How much of sourced directly from farmers, pharmaceutical grade, zero fillers can be shown on paper, from harvest lot to certificate of analysis to pouch.

Around 2014 to 2015 you left private equity focused on the environment to fill gaps you saw in supplements, after years beside your father through colon cancer. Which gap troubled you enough to begin a company with Shahab instead of joining one that already existed.

I worked for close to ten years in environmental private equity in the Bay Area and Palo Alto. I stood beside my father for four or five years while he moved through colon cancer. Those seasons reset my tolerance. When I surveyed the supplement trade, it struck me as opaque, and it struck me as driven down by price.

Panels confused shoppers. Components stayed undisclosed. Margin set the choices. I chose to direct my work toward people. I called my childhood friend Shahab and we created the firm side by side. We fund this business ourselves as a crew. We hold no outside investors. That structure allows us to remain open and to turn down the easy paths I had seen all around.

Your rising ritual is specific. No alarm, waking on your own, spring water before rising, sunlight and grounding, movement before thinking toward clarity. You write, I do not let a device pull me out of sleep, and I want my body to wake when it is ready. How does that morning ritual relate to how you manage sourcing and testing.

My risings stay a ritual rather than a routine. I refuse to be pulled from sleep by a device. I wish for my body to wake at its own hour, not at the hour my phone selects. I sip the tea before I stand upright. I place my feet on the soil and gaze toward the line where sky meets land as morning arrives. Many people attempt to reason themselves toward lucidity.

I guide the firm in parallel fashion. Deliberate enough to confirm. I hold that all disease starts in the mind, so lucidity must precede choice. In procurement that looks like forbearance. Hold for the assay. Study the document. Put one further query to the cultivator. Motion brings me lucidity at dawn. Records bring me lucidity in production. Each calls for attention ahead of action.

You repeat that you bootstrap with no outside investors in order to remain transparent. What has that independence cost you in supply, in minimums, in lead times, or in saying no to a lot.

We hold no outside investors. We fund this business ourselves as a crew. So each buying call rests with us. When a cultivator requires a large minimum, when an extraction runs past schedule, when a laboratory return falls outside specification, we absorb it.

It has taken hours and margin. We have declined crops that missed our documentation. We have reformulated instead of taking an alternative we could not confirm. Five to six years afterward it ranked among the fastest growing labels in the category, yet expansion left the standard intact. No easy paths on procurement. If we cannot document it, we will not assert it.

Your Waldorf schooling formed you in environmental health and biodynamic farming, and you later studied Ayurveda and traditional Chinese herbal medicine after time in Peru. How did that early schooling shape how you now judge a raw material before it ever becomes a powder or an oil.

I have belonged to the health field since day one. I attended Waldorf school, where I learned environmental health, and that taught me to view ground and herb and human as a single web. Afterward my cousin David Wolf guided me in raw food nutrition, then I studied Ayurveda and traditional Chinese herbal medicine, and I dwelled in the forests of Peru and kindred biomes and received teachings from elders on the body at material and subtle levels.

That background explains why I prefer to visit the origin instead of trimming care in procurement. I seek to learn who cultivated it, in which place it was gathered, in what manner it was dried, by which method it was extracted. Wellness begins in trust, and trust begins among the rows. Where I cannot follow the trail back, I keep it out of our blends. I prefer to rebuild from zero than to approve a thin blend.

You say you buy directly from farmers and suppliers and use pharmaceutical grade ingredients with zero fillers. For a careful buyer reading the Supplement Facts panel, what does sourced with intention mean in practice, from harvest lot to the ingredient that reaches your door.

Sourcing with intention implies we record the farmer, we travel to the origin when possible, and we request the history of the lot. In which soil it grew, at which date it was gathered, by which drying practice, through which solvent or method it became powder or oil, at which extract ratio, whether it holds a marker compound in range.

Then the batch must satisfy our standard prior to acceptance. Identity, purity, potency. We require a lot linked certificate of analysis from the vendor, and we confirm through independent laboratory analysis. For my part that covers relevant screening for heavy metals and microbes, plus verification that fill weight aligns with label declaration. Where a lot misses standard, we reject it. I prefer to pause a run than to let a thin lot pass.

Cymbiotika centers on liposomal delivery to shield nutrients through digestion so they can absorb. Guide us through that stage in plain terms. What is a liposome in your method, and where does that stage occur in the chain.

A liposome acts as a minute carrier built from the same substance as cell walls. Picture a slender shield around the nutrient that supports it while passing through digestion. That is the sense behind our phrase trust meets absorption.

Within our sequence, cultivation and extraction lead. That yields a powder or an oil of established identity and assay. Next that component is placed within a liposomal matrix ahead of capsule closing or pouch filling. We report that our goods are produced in the USA, and we quarantine the finished lot until assays return. The panel then must declare contents, with the other ingredients row included. No concealed components. No puzzling panels.

Your site lists Shilajit Liquid Complex at 66 dollars and connects it to memory, mental clarity and focus and sustained energy, while you share that you take it as shilajit tea in your morning Follow that single ingredient for us. Where does shilajit begin, and what changes it into the liquid inside the bottle.

Shilajit starts as a tar like seep gathered in mountain terrain, later washed, passed through filters and reduced to a testable and measurable state. We seek identity and purity records for the raw resin, with heavy metal assays, since stone derived minerals call for close review. Just a cleared lot advances.

Afterward it is composed into our liquid complex and bottled. I drink it as shilajit tea at dawn. My risings stay a ritual rather than a routine. I sip it before I go vertical. I stand upon the ground and face the horizon while the sun lifts. For the shopper, the panel carries the benefits in brand wording, and the Supplement Facts box states the per serving content. To me the test is whether the fluid in the hand links back to an examined source lot.

Liposomal Beauty Peptide Complex at 74 dollars is listed as a best seller for skin hydration and elasticity and the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and Liposomal NAD plus at 77 dollars is listed for cellular energy production and healthy aging and even skin tone. How do you settle the dose and the delivery form for nutrients like these, and what does the label prove against what it leaves out.

We begin from the component and its research record, then we assess if a liposomal carrier suits. With peptides and with NAD plus, shelter during digestion motivates the vehicle. Serving amount derives from vendor information, finished assays and shelf stability, not from flavor or fashion.

The panel establishes serving size, quantity per serving, companion ingredients, plus lot and expiry that link to our archive. What the panel omits is the rest of the dossier. Cultivator identity, gathering lot, processing technique, certificate of analysis, independent laboratory page. That explains our saying wellness begins in trust. A pouch front may speak briefly. The reverse must hold the particulars. A shopper who studies both sides will perceive precisely what we assert and what we withhold.

Wellness starts with trust, and trust starts where plants take root

There are stages every brand finds hard to reveal, a farm that will not share lot photos, a brokered ingredient with thin history, a test that is done inhouse rather than by a third party lab. Where is your chain still unclear, and what would it take to reveal it.

We stand firm where we purchase straight and assay by lot. We stay incomplete where a component moves via a broker or where a cultivator cannot provide gathering images or field logs. Certain botanicals pass through two traders ahead of extraction, and the earliest link may carry sparse documents.

What it requires is what we already seek in other places. Cultivator name, gathering place and date, drying log, extraction log, vendor certificate matched to that lot, with our separate independent confirmation. Till then we state the gap. We avoid lone use of the terms pure or natural. We report what we assayed, in which place it was produced, and what the panel displays. Openness is not a slogan. It is a dossier ready to review.

Closing note from the desk

What remains from this talk is a maker who reads a formula in reverse. Soil first, then separation, then carrier, then container, then wording. Life history sets that sequence. Waldorf lessons, biodynamic plots, Ayurvedic and herbal study, the stretch beside his father, then the choice in 2014 to 2015 to build beside Shahab with no external funds.

Cymbiotika aimed to produce goods that name plainly the contents and point to assays behind brief phrases. Certain links trace fully by lot. Other links still move through traders with slim files. The label takes credit for the former and admits the latter, and invites judgment from the dossier rather than the pouch face.
