In brief
  • No fresh clean standard or startup program surfaced at four major retailers this summer
  • Sephora took 2026 Accelerate entries from March 2 through March 31 for young prestige labels
  • 41 labels have finished Accelerate, and over half have since arrived at Sephora

For a shopper who studies ingredient labels, very little on the shelf shifted this summer. No fresh clean standard update, accelerator cohort or indie program at Sephora, Ulta, Credo or Target was reported between July 8 and October 3, 2026. The latest relevant retail move remains Sephora opening applications for its 2026 Accelerate Program on March 2, 2026.

That calendar point carries weight because Accelerate is often where small brands built around plants learn how to endure inside prestige stores. Sephora describes it as a United States led brand incubation program for early stage prestige beauty brands still narrowly distributed. The 2026 round stopped taking applications on March 31. Plans pointed to finalists named in summer, with sources giving no dated announcement. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 and own a company incorporated in North America.

The tally to date remains precise. To date 41 brands across makeup, skincare, hair care and fragrance have completed Sephora Accelerate. Sephora said over half of Accelerate graduates have launched with Sephora so far. For founders working with roots, leaves, oils and harvest lots, that movement from a kitchen-scale formula toward broad store placement is slow work with real strain. Sourcing decisions made with a first field partner often hold, or break, when order volume climbs.

Recent graduates show what that scaling can produce. EADEM expanded to every Sephora store and its Le Chouchou lip balm entered Sephora top 10 lip moisturizers for 2025. Kulfi is described as now sold in every store with a top 3 lip stain. Topicals, an alum of the 2021 Accelerate cohort, had one of Sephora bestselling eye masks last year. The 7 Virtues entered Accelerate and then arrived at Sephora in 2018. The 2026 Sephora Beauty Grant winner is MAED, as noted in the Sephora newsroom post.

Since its start a decade ago as the first prestige retail incubator for female founders, the Sephora Accelerate Program has helped bring forward new and often underrepresented perspectives and voices in beauty. That note came from the Sephora Newsroom.

The broader clean picture also held still during the window. Ulta Beauty says every brand certified as having Clean Ingredients follows its Made Without List covering substances like parabens and phthalates. Ulta Conscious Beauty includes five standards named Clean Ingredients, Vegan, Cruelty Free, Sustainable Packaging and Positive Impact. The Credo Clean Standard requires brands to screen against a 2,700 entry dirty list ranging from aluminum to talc.

What to watch next is selection more than standards. Sources did not state who made the 2026 Sephora Accelerate cohort, or if indie skincare brands were in it. The joint Know Better, Do Better ingredient report, which reviewed 318,000 ingredient listings in more than 8,500 products, was released Oct 22 without a year given, so it cannot be placed in the summer window.

For now, the home practice stays steady: brew, read the label, choose with care, and watch which young plant-led labels take root.
